Drive from Ujjain to Indore (around an hour), then south towards Dhamnod and east to Maheshwar. If you're adding Omkareshwar, branch off south-east after Indore, do darshan, then drive 65–75 km along the Narmada valley to Maheshwar.

The Bhasma Aarti at Mahakaleshwar takes place before dawn and must be booked in advance on the official site, shrimahakaleshwar.mp.gov.in. After it, have breakfast and leave by mid-morning to reach Omkareshwar for darshan and Maheshwar by evening.
